28 April 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 28th [April 1887]. I finished the translation this morning & gave it to Henry. After lunch I went to Css Pisani as we had arranged to go out together. I found she was not going out so we sat a long time talking. Marquis Gavotti was there & was very amusing. He is chamberlain to the King. From here I walked to Mrs Peabody Russell’s & she gave me tea & then I went home. I found them all at dinner as we dined at ¼ to 7 to go to the Fenice– We saw the Giaconda Mr Malcolm giving us his box. There were a good many people & the opera was pretty well given.
