20 May 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Friday. 20th May [1887]. In the evening we went to a dance given by Pss Marie Dolgorouky at the palace on the Zattere. Henry played whist & went home abt 2. I remained with the girls till nearly 4, they had a cotillion & enjoyed themselves very much. If the candles had not burnt out they would probably have danced later. The Pss was very kind & pleasant. She retired once or twice in the evening to inject morphine wh is a mania of hers. | |
