18 May 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 18th May [1887]. I had a message from Css Canevaro to say those I had asked in to tea tonight insisted upon dancing & she begged I would send for a tapeur. This I did & we put out some of the furniture from the long hall. Css Brandolin & her brother & his wife M. & Mme Fulvia d’Adda & Count Canevaro dined with us at 7.30. In the evening a good many people came & they had their dance—we had tea & ices in the dining room. They danced away until nearly 3 & enjoyed themselves. Miss Bosanquet came early & said “I have come alone—my father said I might.” We said we were delighted. At 12 she said she must go as John the servant would be waiting for her. We said she could not go so she sent down word to ask John (he had been with her father 25 years) if she might remain & he said she might stay as long as she liked to her delight. She looked so pretty & bright & amused herself so much.
