25 June 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 25th June [1887]. Gigia was not well so Ola & I had to do the packing between us which gave us a very tiring morning. Idita Hurtado came to bid us goodbye. Lunched at 1. Left Venice by 3.15 train for Conegliano. Castellani & Bonuzzi came to see us off. Hot afternoon. Found the Vittorio train waiting at Conegliano & went off at once. At Vittorio we found Mr Malcolm’s carriage with Giuseppe waiting for us, while they were putting on the luggage we went to the Hotel Vittorio & had coffee; at 25 to 6 we drove off. Had a charmg cool drive. Nela was full of pranks & kept us alive. We reached La Punta just at 9 & found Mr Malcolm & dinner. Sat out after dinner & to bed at 11. Found La Punta in course of being added to & embellished & scaffoldings everywhere. Read accounts of the Jubilee Day in London which must have been magnificent.
