11 July 1887 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Monday. 11th July [1887]. Unpacked & wrote letters. Maria came in the morning & also Constance. Then Kate. Unhappily all came together. Kate came to say she was going with Monty to stay on board his yacht at Cowes. Mr Clark & Sir William Gregory came to lunch. Henry went with the latter to a meeting at the National Gallery. Mr Clark stayed a little while chatting with me. Later Fred Layard came & had tea with me. Abt 5 Morelli arrived to stay with us & Henry returned at that moment. Blanche & Ola came in & I went out with them & took Ola to 15 to get her tea. Then she & I went to Wigmore Street to order a wreath of flowers for dear Susan’s coffin. We met Maria & Nela on the way & walked together– Ola & I left the others in Oxford St and walked on to Savile Row to leave cards & then walked back. I was dressing when Mama came in saying she was alone & so low, so I persuaded her to go with us to dine with Maria & I called for her in a cab & took her there. We walked home at 11.
