26 July 1887 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Tuesday. 26th July [1887]. We got up at 6.30 & went off from Euston Station by the 9 oclock train for Dublin. We got some lunch at Chester and arrived at Holyhead at 4.30. It began to rain just as we got there but it was only a step from the train to the boat (Northwall line). We had cabins ordered for us & Annie & I had a very good cabin within the lady’s cabin. At first there was not much movement but Annie was very soon ill. I slept & got on all right until we got half way when I suddenly succumbed & was really very ill. We arrived at Dublin abt 9.30 & I was so bad that Henry took me off straight to the hotel leaving the servants to see to the luggage. We went to the Shelbourne Hotel where Mr Henry Doyle had ordered us excellent rooms & a good kind housemaid got me into bed before Annie arrived– I continued to be very sick until midnight when a mustard plaister soothed & quieted me.
