30 July 1887 — Dublin | |
Saturday. 30th July [1887]. Got up at 6.30 & left Dublin by 8 o’cl train. We & Sir Wm Gregory & Mr Doyle. We traveled part of the way with old Lord Lucan who altho’ a great age & rather deaf is a wonderfully young looking fine man. He said he had not met Henry for 30 years (in the Crimea) & did not suppose they could meet in another 30 years! We reached Gort at 12 & found Sir Wm’s carriage to meet us & drove at once to Coole Park where Lady Gregory received us & gave us a good luncheon for which we were very thankful. Then I rested till 5, had tea. Dined at 8 & Mr Martyn of Tallyra dined—a very pleasant R.C. country gentleman abt 35 who has travelled lately in Russia & cares a great deal for art. Lady Gregory’s sister Miss Arabella Persse is staying here. | |
