11 August 1887 — Coole Park, Gort, County Galway
Thursday. 11th August [1887]. I breakfasted in bed & had a good rest. Augusta had arranged that we should all drive over to Lough Cutra to lunch with the Goughs & just about the time for starting it came on to rain heavily so it was decided that Henry & Sir Wm should go over in the brougham by themselves as it threatened to be a wet day. They had hardly started when it cleared & never rained a drop more for the rest of the day. After lunch Augusta & her boy Robert & I went for a walk to see where the lake should be. It was quite dried up & there was only a small rivulet in its place. We walked about on what is usually the bed of the lake where good grass was growing & cattle grazing then we went into the wood & came by a detour round to the house by 5. Sat out & had tea. Our men did not return home till 7, having been very hospitably entertained a grand luncheon & Henry was taken out on the lake to visit the islands.
