22 August 1887 — Kylemore Castle, nr. Recess, County Galway
Monday. 22nd August [1887]. Sir Wm Gregory left for London leaving his wife to stay on as long as we stay. Mrs Henn & I spent the morning trying over duetts & Mr Bartlett played our accompaniments for us. It rained all the morning. After lunch we all got out our work & sat in the library. About 5 it cleared & Mr Henry, Henry & I were starting for a walk when Lady Gregory met us at the door & accompanied us. She had been out to lunch with a Mrs Graham near here & returned at that moment. We walked round the lake & back. Read proofs. After dinner we sat in the corridor & saw a Irish jig danced by the butler & housemaid to the violins of the valet & under gardener. The latter sang also Scotch song with a very pretty voice & then the 2 men played a valse & a polka for us to dance to.
