21 August 1887 — Kylemore Castle, nr. Recess, County Galway
Sunday. 21st [August 1887]. Breakfasted at 9.30 & went to church at 11.30. Mr H. Henn & Lord Mulgrave officiated. Violet Henry played the harmonium & the choir consisted of some of the servants. Lord Mulgrave preached a very good & earnest sermon extempore. The church is most complete & beautiful inside with lovely marbles & pretty carvings and the service was altogether a charming one in every way. After lunch we walked up to the garden & sat there eating grapes & talking till abt 5 when we returned to the castle & had tea. I read thro’ some of the proofs of Henry’s book till dinner time. Sir Wm Gregory took me down to dinner & we had most interesting talk & he told me a great deal about his first wife’s death. He was very touching & she must have been a good woman.
