5 December 1887 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 5th [December 1887]. It was a wet dull day & I did not go out. Mme Mimaut came at 11 and we tried over a guitar duett together till 12. I wrote an answer to the Crown Pss thanking her for a pack of cards she had sent for my mother– In a letter from Ct Seckendorff yesterday he says “we hope for the best & are prepared for the worst.” I fear greatly there will be no best for the poor Cn Prince. Ola & Henry went out a little while in afternoon. Mrs Eden sent me some chrysanthemums wh Ola & I arranged & I made a lot of geranium cuttings. We had a dinner party, the Austrian Consul Genl & Mme Pilat, Sir Alfred, Lady & Miss Trevelyan, Mr Malcolm & Mr Brown. In the Evening the Canevaros, Mr Jamison & Miss Fearon, Mr Wood, Mrs Eden, Edith Bronson came. There was whist & a little music.
