24 January 1888 — Milan
Tuesday. 24th January [1888]. Left by an early train for San Remo. It was bitterly cold & deep snow. Had to wait at Sampierdarena where we got some lunch. As we got near the Riviera it got milder & was really quite warm at San Remo. We went to Hotel Victoria & had very nice rooms. Count Seckendorff came to see us very soon. We got there abt 6. Had dinner & went to bed early.
