30 January 1888 — Pisa | |
Monday. 30th January [1888]. We left abt 11 & went by train to Siena which we found deep in snow & bitter cold. Went to the Grand Hotel where there was not a soul. Had excellent rooms & a good fire. We were alone at the table d’hôte. We did not go out. They said there had been snow all the morning. We were so cold at night that we could hardly sleep. | |
