1 February 1888 — Siena | |
Wednesday. 1st February [1888]. Still bitter cold but fine, we left Sienna abt 8. The horse had to be led down to the station as it was very slippery there having been frost in the night. Before getting to Chiusi I was taken very unwell & was very glad to find a place in the sleeping car from there to Rome. Mr Malcolm came to the station to fetch us in carriage—Emily Maxwell & Lilah Bagot also came to meet us. I was glad on getting to the Hotel d’Angleterre to have some tea & lie down till dinner. Table d’hôte at 6.30. Mr Malcolm & his friend the agent of the P&O Signor Scibona were at dinner. Mr Malcolm left for Venice in the evening. | |
