22 March 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 22nd March [1888]. As we were going to the party last night I said in joke to Henry that as it was so difficult to find a room for the English church he had better lend us a room at the Stabto Venezia Murano. He said “Why not” so we ordered the gondola at 11 this morning & he & I went off to see the 2nd floor & ask Signor Benuzzi if it could be spared. He at once acquiesced & I went to Mr Jameson’s house to fetch him. I found he was gone to Palestrina so I explained to Miss Fearon & then went to see Mr Malcolm to ask him to see about finding us chairs. I paid him a visit in his counting house & settled with him also that he should have the Bp of Gibraltar to stay with him instead of us. Went home to lunch & did not go out again but having a headache sat quiet with Ola talking till tea time when the Pss of Montenegro came to tea & her daughter and Mr & Mrs Middleton Fox & Idita. Mr Malcolm came to dine with us. We were going afterwards to Css Canevaros but I had a headache & went to bed early & Henry went as far as the front door but found it pouring so that he gave it up. Mr Jameson came just before dinner to hear abt the new Church room & very pleased at our luck.
