17 April 1888 — Bâle
Tuesday. 17th [April 1888]. We left Bâle by 8.40 train & got a carriage to ourselves & arrived at 6 at Paris. The train being full we admitted a gentleman but did our journey very comfortably. Mr Bélard met us at the station. The Murrays who left Milan the same day as we came via the Cenis & arrived here this morng. They came to see us just after our arrival. Dacre came in the evening. We found in the papers very bad accounts of the Emperor Frederic’s health.
