6 May 1888 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Sunday. 6th May [1888]. I went off to the Temple to morng service. Next me sat Madeleine de Peyronnet & she also went to lunch with the Benchers. She was there with Mr Tom Hughes. Mr Redhouse of the Turkish Dictionary was also there—also other people who I did not make out. We lunched in the Parliament Chamber– An excellent cold meal & afterwards retired to the Treasurer (Sir Pat’s) room to partake of liqueurs. I & Madeleine came home in a hansom together abt 3. I remained at home & had tea. Lord Selborne & Lady Sophia came to tea—also my brother Arthur. Later Ivor & his girl Frances called. I went to see Bee at 7 & returned to dinner at 8. Met Edward in the street & he told me the P. of Wales had had a very bad account of the Emp. Frederick today at 5. We dined alone & to bed early.
