27 August 1888 — En route to Hull
Monday. 27th [August 1888]. Fine weather & calmer so Henry being better & I well I got up after breakfast & sat reading under shelter. We had some heavy showers & a thunderstorm in the afternoon. Dined at 5 & at about 7 arrived at Hull very glad to be at the end of our journey at sea. There were about 300 emigrants on board who poor people were only at the beginning of their troubles as they have to go to Liverpool & take ship for America. We went to the station hotel & had coffee & went off to London by 8.40 express having to change at Selby. It was a lovely warm moonlit night. We reached King’s X at 2 & hastened home to Queen St & to bed. Leo remained the night at Hull. Rayd came up with us & went to his father’s house at St John’s Wood. My room was sweet with flowers sent up by Ola Du Cane.
