28 September 1888 — Brieg | |
Friday. 28th [September 1888]. Hired a carriage & started at 8.30 to go over the Simplon. Splendid day & beautiful views over the valley of the Rhone—of the Bel Alp—looking down on Brieg. At the top of the pass we stopped to lunch & rest the horses & went on & slept at Domodossola & slept at Hotel de la Poste where we had so often before stayed in an old inn with the Italian courtyard & open passages round it. Dined & played patience. | |
