27 October 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 27th October [1888]. Painted till 12. The Duke of Saxe-Weimar, his 2 ADC, Signor Barozzi & Mr Meyer came to lunch. The Duke afterwards went over our pictures again. He had been to see them in our absence at Longarone. He was very enthusiastic about them & intelligent & on leaving he thanked us for the pleasure we had given him saying he was sure that it must give us pleasure to have given any one else so much. He asked what time I received in order that he might come again before he left to “pay me his respects!” They all went away at abt 3.30. I practised the guitar. The Canevaros came to tea—Mrs Burr dined with us & went to the theatre with Henry & the girls. I went to spend the evening with the Edens & met Mme Acton—the pretty clever widow.
