24 November 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 24th November [1888]. Nela & I painted. Edith came, played the guitar but she did not remain to luncheon. The girls went to the Carmine garden to play tennis. I went with Bessie the kitchen maid to the church practise. Found Henry at the Stabto & we walked together. Called on Mrs Brown & found her at home & then walked home. The Symonds girls came to tea. We dined at 7.30, at 9.30 went to the Canevaros to have game of whist. Found Carry Eden there. The conversation unfortunately fell on Warsberg & Ersilia flew into a state of excitement & made a regular scene, was very rude & violent. I got very hot & angry but held my tongue with difficulty & altogether had a very unpleasant evening & was glad to get away & slept badly after it.
