27 November 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 27th November [1888]. Painted. Nela took out the C. Pembertons in sandalo in morning. Mr Malcolm came. Mr Jameson also & Mr Brown happening to call also. They had a church Committee. Directly after lunch the girls went off to the Carmine garden for tennis. Henry & I walked there going round by the Frari to a little shop where he bought 12 little pictures of the seasons for the Sater Bonifazios. Walked on to the Carmine garden where were Nela & Ola playing tennis with Mr DuGué & Mr Mimaut. Left Henry there & went on with Ola, called on Mme Mimaut & saw her. She was ill & looking very worn & thin in her chaise longue. We went on to Mrs Brown to a tea party where we met all Venice. It was an adieu to the Symonds who return to Davos tomorrow. I went to dine with the Edens & met Css Olga Mocenigo & we had rather an amusing evening. There was a great discussion about Baron Warsbergs delinquencies. He has further infuriated the Italians by sending out a card of invitation “restera ohey lui” instead of “requesting the honor” for a party next Thursday. It is stupid but the poor man evidently means well & is very severely treated & one begins to take his part. Henry took the girls to the opera Lucretia Borgia.
