7 December 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 7th December [1888]. Up at 7.30, splendid weather. Painted from 10 to 11 & then Ola & I went in the sandalo to Palazzo Savornian to see Mr Marzials pianoforte which he wants to sell & we wd like to buy. We found the piano a Broadwood in an empty room & liked it very much—tried it & decided to have it. He would not let me pay more than £40. It is a new piano costing £125. Marzials played some of his compositions—he & I read over a new duett “The Cloudlet” of which he had the proofs & wh seems very pretty. Ola & I returned home having concluded the bargain for the piano. After lunch we all 4 went off to the Eden garden—took a walk & picked some green for flower vases & Henry & Ola walked home from the Zattere. I & Nela went to Marzials with the money for the piano & found him just having come from us having taken a panic that I insisted upon paying more for the piano which was far from my thoughts. Tea at 5 to which came Mme Neville. Dined alone. Bed early. Copied Dizzys letters.
