Monday. 24th [December 1888]. Very busy day. Wrote out responses in morng, gave out stores &c. At 12 Dora & I went out to get more Christmas presents. Ola went to see Mrs Browning under the care of Miss Holas who happened to call—& she joined us at the Piazza & came home in the gondola with us. We were rather late for lunch. Directly after Henry, Nela, Dora & I started, they left me for the Carol practise & went on to the Piazza– I came home abt 3.30 & found Edith & Olga Montenegro here & the girls tried on their costumes– Mr Jameson, Mr Woods & Mr Fisher worked at the completion of the stage till nearly dinner time. Marzials came to tea. Lady Galway came to dinner & at 9 Mr Woods & Mr Fisher came back and we rehearsed some of the tableaux & then went up & arranged the stockings full of presents for the girls & got late to bed– Henry took Nela, Dora & Olga to the evening service at St Marks at 6—& we dined at 8, Olga staying to dinner. | |
