28 December 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 28th December [1888]. Nela woke up with swelled eyes wh we concluded came from a bite but she remained in bed till lunch & I painted alone. Ola & Dora read aloud to me the while & then I read part of Roger’s Italy in the midst of which we had a visit from Trombini & then came luncheon. Trombini came to arrange about the Trio playing which we are anxious to have– Sr Tirindelli refused to come under 50 fcs a night & now has come down to 25. After lunch Henry took Ola & Dora to Murano to see the glass blowing & Nela & I went out in gondola. I payed Ersilia Canevaro a visit & found her at home & then we went to Mrs Brown & found her. Home to tea & had a large gathering viz Lady Galway, the Pss of Montenegro & her sister,               . Marzials dined with us & I played the harmonium afterwards.
