22 January 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 22nd [January 1889]. Worked at Ola’s bust– Leo left us by 1.40 train for Florence. He goes to Rome & Naples & Brindisi back to New Caledonia. After lunch Mr Moore called for Ola, Nela & me & took us to the Arsenal in his gondola– There we met the Adl & Mme Noce & got into their steam launch & they were going to the Lido but it blew so hard that we turned back & went on board the “Rapido” a ship which leaves tomorrow for Zanzibar. We had tea followed by Champagne to drink “Buon viaggio.” From there we went to the Public gardens & walked thence to the Arsenal—paid Mme Noce a little visit & then home. The dressmaker came & I had to interpret for the girls. Henry took the 3 girls to hear the “Traviata.” I stayed at home, practised guitar & wrote letters.
