23 January 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 23rd [January 1889]. Ola sat to me in morning. Splendid weather. The girls wanted to go to the Lido so we went in the sandolo to see if Mr Brown would go– He could not so I sent the girls on to the Lido & went in to pay Mrs Brown a visit & walked home. I stopped at Ersilia’s; went in & found her singing to Bn Andrian’s Cello– Mrs Eden, & Css Serego called also Miss Fearon & Miss Hammond. Then Css Mocenigo of S. Stae & later Mr & Mrs Beers who had brought us letters from Sir Wm Drake—funny little Jews– She a Sassoon, he proprietor of the “Examiner” newspaper– Lady Galway dined with us. I was going to Css Canevaro’s & also to Mrs Bronson’s dance but had such a headache I went to bed instead.
