29 July 1889 — Lucerne | |
Monday. 29th July [1889]. Dacre took Ola & Nela for a trip in the mountains—by Meiringen, Rosenlaui, Grindelwald & Muren & Henry & I remained quietly at Lucerne all this week seeing no one we knew. One day we made a trip up the Lake by steamer as far as Thiellen—there we merely changed into the return steamer—luncheon on board & returned. Our chief amusement was watching at table d’hôte where we dined every day an American couple & a German with a large St Bernard dog. The Americans were evidently not long married but she flirted so desperately with the German that her husband was evidently madly jealous & not without reason. She still persisted & used to collect chicken bones in an envelope for the German’s dog. | |
