27 August 1889 — La Punta, Longarone
Tuesday. 27th [August 1889]. Left Longarone with Malcolm, Henry & Dacre at 7.30 in morning. Left Ola & Nela there & our servant Luigi. Took Annie with us. Drove to Vittorio & went to Venice by 12 o’cl train. At Conegliano we changed trains & waited 20 mins: There met Mme Rombo who was going to Vittorio. We reached Venice abt 3– Found it very pleasant & cool there. Annie got us some tea. At 5 we took Mr Malcolm & went to S. Vio to see how the building for the English Church was going on. Met Mr Scott the architect there. It is very satisfactory & the flooring is almost ready for the terrazza. It is a large bare building but we hope money will be found later on for decoration. We went hence to the Eden garden & the Giudecca & took a walk before dinner & then dined out of doors at 7.30—quite dark & rather cold.
