14 November 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Thursday. 14th November [1889]. Splendid weather. Got up at 7. Read & played guitar before breakfast. Desideri came & painted Eda’s portrait till 12. Copied for Henry till lunch. Recd a letter from the Empress’ lady in waiting to say the Empress would have liked to have seen me had there been time. Out in gondola with Henry & Sir Fred & went to Edens garden—& then to leave some cards. Home to tea & read aloud to Henry till dinner. He took the girls to the Opera & Sir Fred & I went to Mrs Eden’s to spend the evening & met Browning & Miss Browning, Mrs Bronson, Mr Blumenthal & Dr Bird (who is staying with the Edens). Home by 10.30. | |
