| 22 November 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
| Friday. 22nd November [1889]. Splendid day. Sr Desideri came & photographed my Portia & I worked at it till 1 when we lunched. At 2 went out in gondola with Henry to the Lido & took a walk– Very low tide & the beach was covered with people digging for razor fish. The girls went out in the sandolo to row a race against Mr Brown & Mr Allen—which they won—it was great excitement to them & amused them vastly. Read aloud to Henry & began Lord Stanhope’s notes on the D. of Wellington, very interesting. Bed early. | |
