17 January 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 17th January [1890]. Henry remained in bed till lunch when he said he was better & got up. But he was so shivery that about 4 he went to bed again. Ola went out to see Lady Galway & came back saying the old Lady was ailing & she had sent me a message to say she did not wish to be buried in Venice & what arrangements should she make? Hearing this after I had got Henry to bed I went off about 5 to the Albergo di Roma & found Lady G on her bed groaning & complaining of pain in her stomach. I & the old maid administered hot tea & brandy & rubbed her & I stayed there till 6.30 when Dr Cini arrived and said there was nothing the matter & ordered some simple remedy & I returned to Henry. Read aloud to him in the evening. The white fog still continues & it is bitterly cold. Nela better but still in bed.
