7 February 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Friday. 7th [February 1890]. I helped Nela & Eda to make their ball dresses in the morning. Went out with Henry in afternoon. Had a quantity of people to tea in the afternoon– As it is the fashion with the Italians to call when they have received an invitation to a ball. Took the girls to a dance at Bss Oesterreicher’s where I was horribly bored– To my astonishment the Italian ladies despite their host & hostesses wishes insisted on smoking in the drawing room during the ball. | |
