22 March 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 22nd [March 1890]. I went at 12 to lunch with the Css & Lotta came to lunch here. She & I had a cosy little lunch in her mezzanine room which looks over the canal & a nice long talk & then she brought me home & we had the mandolin & guitar band practise till 4.30– Then I went to rest in my room till dinner. The Countess & Lotta & Mr Brown dined with us & in the evening we had our trios—& Tirindelli played beautifully & gently, a Berceuse by Goddard which greatly affected me. I was not very well & had one of my colics in the middle of the evening but soon got over it.
