11 May 1890 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Sunday. 11th May [1890]. Did not go to church. Up late. Ruth, Ivor & Maria came in after church. Ruth, Nelly Alderson & Elizabeth Bertie lunched with us & Ct Hatzfeldt. I did not go out. Visit from Lady Sophia Palmer & her little niece (Woolner). Ruth stayed with me & amused the child while I talked to Sophy. Lady Gregory came in & made me go for a walk with her. We went to Regents park. On the way back we met my sister Maria walking with Mr Clark & came down Portland Place together. The work of destruction of Langham House Portland Place is not yet accomplished quite—but ½ a mere carcase now remains. It is a melancholy sight. I was married from that house & much of my life was spent there & now the place is being wiped out! Rhuvon Guest, Ruth & Virginia dined with us & we played Reversi in the evening.
