9 September 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 9th September [1890]. Had our tea as usual at 7. Breakfast at 9. The girls went out in the sandolo before breakfast. I had just time to order dinner & give out the linen when it was 10 & Ct Seckendorff came across to fetch me to go out with H.M. to the bric a brac shops. We went to Carrer—Zuben—Rietti & Richetti & it was 1 o’cl before we had finished & got home to our luncheons. Afterwards Mme Noce came to call & sat some time chatting. Later Marquis Alfieri, Mr Curtis & Mr Moore, we were just about to have tea when the Empress was announced with Pss Margaret. Pss Victoria was laid up with a cold– After staying some time she went off to buy glass at the Venezia Murano & begged me to follow her. Henry, Nela & I set off in gondola and they dropped me at the Stabto & I came home with H.M. & Pss Mar: There was a short thunderstorm during the afternoon & it became windy so we returned by the short cut (S. Moisé) home. I rested a little & then read aloud to Henry, began a new french novel “Petite Mire.” He & I went to dine with the Empress & Mr Malcolm was also there. Dacre & the girls came over in the evening. Home early.
