21 September 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 21st September [1890]. We all went to church at 10.30. The girls went afterwards to the Academy. I copied out the Responses after church till lunch time. Hot—scirocco wind. Mrs Arkwright, her cousin & sister came to call at 2.30 & also Mr Brown of Genoa came & all looked at our pictures. At 4 Daisy & Nela went out with the Empress. Ola & I went to church & took Miss Dorothy Somers Cocks with us. Very small congregation. Henry called for us & we went to Palazzo Rezzonico. I came home– Just as I was starting for church Don Antonio came from Vescovana with message from Css Pisani about a journey tomorrow so we took him in gondola with us & sent him on to S. Marks while we were in church & he returned at 5 & he & I had tea in my studio & discussed plans. He remained to dinner with us & Malcolm also dined with us. After dinner Malcolm took the Du Canes & Princesses to the Piazza & I went over to take H.M. last orders about tomorrow & D. Antonio set off to the station walking under the care of Pasquale & returned to Vescovana–
