24 September 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 24th September [1890]. Got up at 7 & busy morning giving out stores &c. Mr Moore arrived to ask us to go out sailing in the arsenal boat & he remained at lunch with us & at a little after 2 Nela, Daisy & I went across to fetch the 2 Princesses & some in their gondola some in Mr Moore’s went to the steps of the Giardin Publico where the sailing boat was waiting with an officer. We backed & tacked but we did not get on very well & soon the wind died away & we had to take to the oars. Ola passed us in the gondola with the tea baskets so we stopped & took Ola on board. We landed at the Favorita, took a little walk & made tea on the shore & then Pss Victoria, Mr Moore & I spent some time looking for 4 leaved clover & he alone found one– On the way home Pss Victoria & I changed boats & went into the other. We were 6 of us & a tight fit but Mr Moore had to hurry home to dress for dinner as he & Adl Noce dined with H.M. We were a merry party—& got home just in time to dress for dinner & write a few letters. After dinner the Princesses came over with Herr v. Wedell. Ct Agostini & Sr Trombini came & we had some music wh was very pleasant. Pss Vict. gave me a ruby, diamond & sapphire ring.
