14 November 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 14th November [1890]. Painted a short time in morning. Mr Dyer came & corrected our work. After went all of us to lunch at the Arsenal with the Noces. Had a long & excellent meal. The girls went there in steamer. Henry, Mama & I went in gondola. We dropped Henry at Piazza & he walked home. Mama & I left some cards & then came in. Mr & Mrs Eden came to tea & to look over Mama’s great fan books. Mr Malcolm also came & I took him in to see Henry who was sitting as usual in the armchair in our bed room. Mr Malcolm told us that the Queen’s courier had highly approved of his house & said it was admirably adapted to lodge H.M. & gave Mr Malcolm to understand that she would probably decide upon hearing his report. If she comes it will be a great pride & joy to Mr Malcolm & he was quite flushed at the idea the dear old man. I wrote a few letters & read aloud to Henry before dinner.
