24 November 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 24th November [1890]. Painted in morning. Passini came to begin his water color portrait of Henry in his library at his own writing table & made the 1st sketch. Mme Noce came to tea in the studio—& a little after Clara Montalba came in as we had many interruptions, Nela & I, Sophie sat with us reading & talking. After lunch Henry, S. & I went to the Piazza where the band was playing & there met Carry Eden. I went to Jesurum’s about having the Empress’ lace made up into table cloths for her & to the music shop to get some guitar music. Came home with Henry & left him at the door, got taken opposite by gondola & there S. & I walked round by the Rialto home to tea. Mme Castellani called. Read aloud to Henry for an hour before dinner. Mr & Mrs Browning & Miss Broadwood & Mr Malcolm dined with us & afterwards Mr Browning, Ola & I played guitar & mandola trios. Mr Dyer came in after dinner & spent the evening with us.
