25 November 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 25th November [1890]. Got up at 8. Did some work on the sewing machine before breakfast for Nela– Painted with her till 12. Tried over duetts with Ola– Most splendid weather. Henry, Sophie & I were “buttare” across the canal & walked to the Piazza—& found the gondola there. Went to enquire for Mr Eden who has been unwell & from there Sophie & I walked home by the iron bridge– Miss Clara Montalba & Miss Matterson came to lunch with us– Mrs M. was not well eno’ to come– I read aloud to Henry & finished the Corres: of Pozzo di Borgo with Nesselrode wh got long & dull towards the end– In evening S. read a little of H. James novel “The Tragic Muse” to me—very queer book & we thought it great rubbish. Splendid moonlit night.
