26 November 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 26th [November 1890]. Woke to find it snowing hard in immense flakes—but it did not last & in the afternoon became quite bright & the sun was hot. I went out in gondola with Henry to the Piazza. The air was cold & raw. Painted in morng & Passini came & began to colour Henry’s portrait. Henry & I called on the Edens at 4, found Edith Bronson with them. Lady Sophia took a walk with Nela– Mr Jameson, Miss Fearon, Mrs Browning & Miss Broadwood came to tea also Mr Woods who has got an idea that we should have a masked procession for Christmas night after one described in Washington Irving’s sketch book. Wrote letters– No reading as Miss Holas came from 5 to 7 to help Henry with some Italian translation. Bed early.
