7 December 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 7th December [1890]. Went to church with Sophie & Nela & Ola in the morning. Home at 12. Lovely day at last. Lunched at 1. Went at 2 with Nela to call on Princess Victoria. Found Mrs Eden calling there. Came back & left Nela at home & took Henry & Sophie to the Eden garden. We got a few flowers quite the last chrysanthemums of the year. The girls went to the Europa & walked with the Prince & Princess to the Arsenal & had tea with the Noces. Mr Browning came to tea with me & Sophie. He was full of the ingratitude of Mrs Browning’s Swiss maid who after great kindnesses received has suddenly given her warning. I wrote letters & read aloud to Henry. After dinner P. & Pss Adolf came in & Mlle Blücher & Mr Moore & we played a game of Halma.
