21 December 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 21st December [1890]. Tired & remained in bed till luncheon. Wrote a lot of Christmas letters. Had a long letter from the Empress Frederick full of sorrow at losing her daughter the Dss of Sparta who is gone back to Athens & very melancholy as the festive season advances. Mme Wiel came to tea. Mr Malcolm dined with us. Snow still on the roofs of the houses but the weather is less severe. Regina’s child was christened today.
