17 January 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 17th [January 1891]. Ola & Nela went off by 10.15 train to stay with Countess Pisani at Vescovana—so Henry & I are alone together for the 1st time for many months. Passini came to work at the portrait. I worked at finishing a medallion of Henry that I began long since in wax. After lunch we went out & walked on the Riva Schiavoni. It was bright but very cold. Css Gozzi & Mme Benozzi came to tea. I read aloud to Henry. Dined at 7 & he & I went to Mr Malcolms box at the Rossini to hear the new tenor Cremonini in Gounods Romeo & Juliet. He sang very well—pretty voice & good style & acts well. He is quite young & took the public immensely. We got home at 12—had tea & got to bed– Bright moonlit night & cold–
