4 February 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 4th February [1891]. I sat to Nela for my portrait & also worked at tea cloth designs to send my sister Blanche for her Garry Hill industry. Mr Eden came while we were at lunch to ask Nela to go to the Fenice with him this eveng with Pss Olga Montenegro. Mr Malcolm sent us his box so I decided to go with Henry. Later the Princesse mère du [illegible word] also invited Nela to go with her—so she had 3 boxes for tonight but she had accepted to go with Mr Eden– Carry was in bed. I went to see Mr Eden & to enquire after her– Nela dined with Mr Eden. I went to the Fenice with Henry & liked the Cavalleria Rusticana much better on hearing it the second time & with a good tenor Oxilla. The prima donna Fradin acts very well. We had a prologue of an opera by Carnagiolli a young Venetian—Paradise & the Pen very trying. He was much applauded & called. I can make no sense nor music of it.
