9 February 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 9th February [1891]. Passini came to continue Henry’s portrait wh he had left for some time. I sat to Nela for her sketch of me after breakfast till 12 o’cl & then we worked at embroidery patterns for the Irish work. Went out in gondola with Henry & Nela—they walked on Piazza– I went to see Carry Eden who is not well again. Heard all abt the party last night at Mrs Bronson’s. A surprise party of young ladies dressed as flowers. There was a very low tide today & it was difficult to get to the doors of the Palaces—& visiting was made difficult. I had to land at the traghetto of Sa Maria Zobenigo to go to the Edens at Pal. Barbarigo. Came home to tea– Visit from the Princess of Montenegro & Olga—also from Ida Css Belmondo Caccia who was née Ehrenhoff & whom I had not seen since I left Consple when her father was Swedish Minister. She is now on her way there with his body. He died at Napoli & is to be buried by his wife at Consple. Mme Hurtado & Idita also came—Olga & she both went up to see Henry in my room. The Pss of Mont: kindly took Nela to the ballo di beneficenza tonight—& after dinner our manservant Paolo asked permission to go also wh explained the reason why he waited at dinner in a splendid embossed shirt. I worked at embroidery patterns & went early to bed.
