13 February 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 13th February [1891]. Got up late– Modelled in wax. After lunch Carry Eden came to see us—being out for the 1st time since she was ill. We all went out, Henry, Nela & I took Carry to Passini’s studio to see the portrait of Henry in its frame which shows it off wonderfully. His studio is in a room of a fine old Vendramin Palace opposite the Carmen—all let out for studios– Fine halls & stucchi & good staircases– I then took her home while Nela & Henry took a walk– I sat and talked to the Edens & they fetched me & took me home at 5. Pss Andrian came to tea—& Css Ricaldini a talkative little Italian lady, wife of a naval officer. She was very amusing & chattered away in pretty broken English abt the airs the young men gave themselves here where there were so many ladies—whereas the same men at Spezia where ladies were so few had to make much of the women. Mr Malcolm also called. I read aloud to Henry till dinner. Played Halma with Nela in evening.
