15 February 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 15th February [1891]. Nela & I went to church in the morning– When I came home I did my window gardening. Bulbs beginning to show flower. Nela went to lunch with the Pss of Montenegro—& returned to go to afternoon service with me—& we went on to the Arsenal to Mme Noce’s farewell tea party. The Admiral gives up his command today & goes to command the squadron. All the world & his wife were there—but I did not enjoy myself & was not feeling well– All the party ladies & gentlemen had begun to smoke before I left & the atmosphere had become unpleasant. Read aloud to Henry before dinner. Dined in the library at 8 & played a game of Halma with Nela in the eveng. It was cold today but much less windy.
