Monday. 16th [February 1891]. Woke with a splitting headache & lay all day in the dark without touching food till about 5 when I was a little better & took a little tea. Dictated a letter to Ola—Nela wrote it. Don Antonio the Vescovana priest came to lunch with Henry & to ask if Ola may remain at Vescovana a little longer & we are to join her next week. At 7 I got up & dressed & went down to dinner as we had a little party. The Princess of Montenegro & Olga—Admiral & Mme Noce, Mons. Passini, Mr Woods & Count Lanckoronski a very rich Hungarian who has written a fine book on ruins in Asia Minor where he travelled with 10 people, architects, artists &c. He is a good looking big man, fair with a beard but he had an ugly cracked voice & is a tremendous chatterbox. The Pss of Montenegro kindly took Nela to Bss Oesterreicher’s party where there was dancing notwithstanding that we are in Lent. | |
